North Carolina Pre-kindergarten Program

 

 

 

What is the North Carolina Pre-kindergarten Program (NC Pre-K)?

​

NC Pre-K is North Carolina’s state funded pre-kindergarten program. This program is designed to promote school readiness skills in children who are four years of age. Its purpose is to provide children with high-quality, classroom-based educational experiences during the year prior to Kindergarten.  NC Pre-K is a substantial funding partner to all Pre-K classrooms located in the Cleveland County Public Schools, as well as, in six qualified child development centers. 

 

Why is attending NC Pre-K so important?

Research indicates when little children enter Kindergarten ready for success in school, they are far more likely to reach their social, emotional and intellectual potentials.

Who is eligible for NC Pre-K?

​

Children may be eligible for the free NC Pre-K program if they will be four years old by August 31st for the 2021-2022 school year, meet income eligibility requirements and reside in Cleveland County.  Children of certain military families are also eligible without regard to income.  In addition, up to 20% of age-eligible children enrolled may have family incomes in excess of 75% State Median Income if they have documented risk factors in specific categories including developmental disability, Limited English Proficiency, educational need, or chronic health condition.

What do I need to do to apply?

You can pick up an application at any of our NC Pre-K centers or contact us at the Cleveland County Partnership for Children.

Important Information!  

 

Completed applications must include the following documents:

​

• Child’s birthdate verification

• Child’s immunization record

• Income verification

• If not parent, documentation of legal custody or legal guardianship

• Child’s medical form (within 30 days of enrollment)
